Filipino VAs earn in USD but live in pesos. Rent in Metro Manila runs ₱15,000–₱40,000/month; food and utilities ₱10,000–₱20,000; transportation ₱3,000–₱8,000. A $7/hour full-time role (roughly ₱71,000/month at 40 hrs) comfortably covers middle-class living in most provincial cities, and a solid urban lifestyle in Manila or Cebu.
Showing both currencies helps set expectations on both sides: employers understand what the work is worth, and Filipino workers can plan household budgets against the exact peso figure.
Everything Filipino VAs and international employers ask about remote pay rates, taxes, and payment logistics.
Entry-level Filipino VAs earn $4–$6/hour (roughly ₱40,000–₱61,000/month at 40 hours per week). Mid-level VAs earn $6–$10/hour, and senior VAs or specialists earn $10–$18/hour. Full-time monthly earnings typically range from $700 to $2,500 depending on role, experience, and client.
The Philippine minimum wage in Metro Manila is roughly ₱610/day (~$10.50 USD) for local jobs. A Filipino VA earning even $4/hour full-time makes ₱40,000+/month — nearly 3× the local minimum wage. This is why remote work for international clients is among the fastest-growing career paths in the Philippines.
Yes. Filipino remote workers are generally classified as self-employed professionals or sole proprietors by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). They register as such, issue official receipts, and pay graduated income tax (0–35%) plus a 3% percentage tax OR opt into the 8% flat-rate scheme if gross annual income is under ₱3 million. Most VAs use the 8% option.
The most common payment methods are Wise (formerly TransferWise), Payoneer, and PayPal. Direct bank transfer via Swift is less common because of fees. Wise is the most popular because of low mid-market rates and fast peso payouts. Some senior talents accept USDC/USDT stablecoins to avoid conversion losses.
Filipino VAs are paid in USD by international clients but live and spend in pesos. Seeing both numbers helps both sides of the transaction understand real value — employers know what they're paying, and talents can plan budgets in their local currency.
Most Filipino VAs raise rates every 12–18 months based on retention, reviews, and new skills acquired. A typical progression: start at $5/hr, raise to $7 after a year of solid work, then $10–$12 after adding a specialization (SEO, bookkeeping, Shopify, etc). Don't undervalue yourself — employers expect rate growth from repeat engagements.
